Route summary: Adelaide – Port Broughton – Moonta Bay – Wallaroo – Ardrossan – Stansbury – Foul Bay
It’s time to pile the kids into the car and head to the coast… the stunning Yorke Peninsula awaits! Outdoor adventure, immersive experiences and quality family time are all on this itinerary, as you take in some of the most magnificent scenery along the way.
Day 1
Adelaide – Port Broughton
Total driving distance: 178km
Stay:
Port Broughton Tourist Park (two nights)
This holiday park is perfectly designed for family fun. There’s a range of accommodation options from campsites to self-contained cabins with views of the bay. They’ve got all the bells and whistles to keep the kids happy, including a mini golf course, jumping pillow, pump track for bikes and scooters, swimming pool, toddler pool, ninja playground, go-karts and waterslides!

Morning:
- Depart Adelaide and take the leisurely drive to Port Broughton.
- Along the way, stop at the tiny town of Lochiel, a great spot to stretch the legs and get a photo by Lake Bumbunga (Pink Lake). The colours of the lake turn from blue to white and pink throughout the year as the salinity of the water changes. The kids might even spot a local lurking in the water… the famous Loch-eel monster!
- A quick pit-stop at Bute is also worthwhile to check out the iconic silo art.
Afternoon:
- Arriving in Port Broughton you’ll be welcomed with your first glimpse of the breathtaking Spencer Gulf coastline. Grab a casual lunch in town at the Port Broughton Bakery.
- Check in to your cabin at the Port Broughton Tourist Park, unpack the car and then relax for the afternoon as the kids let off some steam at the splash park!
Evening:
- Take a 10 minute walk into town for dinner at the Port Broughton Hotel. The menu is packed with classic pub fare and plenty of locally-sourced seafood.

Day 2
Port Broughton
Morning:
- Start the day with a home-cooked brekky in your accommodation (if you’re camping there’s a fully-equipped camp kitchen on site!)
- Borrow some crab nets from reception and head to the jetty to try your hand at catching some famous local blue swimmer crabs. Or book ahead to spend the morning out at sea catching Snapper and King George Whiting on a fishing charter.
Afternoon:
- Head to Beachfront Takeaway for some fish and chips and take it down onto the beach for a picnic in true Port Broughton style. The kids can run free as you enjoy the view.
- Head back to the park for some mini golf and a swim.
Dinner:
- If you managed to catch some crabs this morning, take the opportunity to cook your own catch at the camp kitchen. If the fishing gods weren’t friendly you could head into town for dinner at Palate 2 Pallette, a family-friendly restaurant, art gallery and wine bar.

Day 3
Port Broughton – Moonta Bay – Wallaroo
Total driving distance: 87km

Wallaroo Holiday Park (2 nights)
This holiday park is a family favourite and it’s easy to see why. Complete with a bike pump track, fire pits, bouncy pillow, playground, arcade games room and an awesome camp kitchen — it ticks all the boxes. There’s a variety of accommodation from campsites to stunning beachfront apartments with views for days!

Morning:
- Have a leisurely breakfast at your accommodation or pack up, check out and head into town for a big cook up of bacon, eggs and delicious waffles at Bay Street Cafe.
- Drive on to Moonta Bay, where you can visit the Moonta Mines Museum to delve into the region’s mining history. Then take a walk on the jetty for some fresh air.
Afternoon:
- You can’t visit Moonta without trying one of their famous Cornish pasties… so take a lunch stop at The Cornish Kitchen and see what all the fuss is about!
- Take a short 20-minute drive to Wallaroo where you will stay for the next couple of days.
- Check in to the Wallaroo Holiday Park which is a destination in its own right! Let the kids burn off some energy on the bouncy pillow and explore all the park has to offer.
Evening:
- If you’re looking for a really special night out that still caters for kids, you can’t go past the Bond Store Wallaroo. It’s a restaurant, distillery and microbrewery all in one and it delivers on all fronts. The menu is vast and filled with fresh, seasonal local produce and it all washes down well with a gin or beer tasting paddle!

Day 4
Wallaroo
Morning:
- Enjoy breakfast in your accommodation then hire some kayaks or stand up paddle boards from reception and head out onto the water to enjoy sea air and get some exercise.
- Nothing says holidays like an all day brunch menu… and you’re in luck because the brunch at North Beach Kitchen is superb and it’s only a short stroll from the holiday park. Try the local fave Blue Swimmer Crab Scramble… trust us!
Afternoon:
- Chill out on the beach or head to the jetty to see if you can catch some fish or squid.
Evening:
- Head to the nearby Marina for a pub dinner at the Coopers Alehouse Wallaroo, or opt to cook up your own feast in the camp kitchen at the park then toast marshmallows on the fire for dessert. The perfect way to end a perfect day in Wallaroo!

Day 5
Wallaroo – Ardrossan – Stansbury – Weetulta
Total driving distance: 215km

Redwing Farm (two nights)

Morning:
- Have a light breakfast at your accommodation then check out and hit the road headed for Ardrossan.
- Make sure you book in advance for a crab-catching adventure like no other with Catch n Cook World Tour. Be prepared to get your hands dirty as you walk through the shallows raking for crabs with an expert guide who is there to teach you everything you need to know about the local marine life. Then head into town where you will dine on a gourmet meal featuring your fresh-caught crabs cooked up by the best chef in town!
Afternoon:
- With bellies full, it’s time to head to Stansbury to where you can be a “Deckie for a Day” with Pacific Estate Oysters. This immersive experience sees you out wading in the pristine waters of Oyster Bay to see how oysters are farmed. To top it off you can indulge in oysters straight from the water!
- For a low-key afternoon you can take a stroll along the Stansbury Walking Trail or visit the Stansbury Museum. Before you head out of town be sure to stop past the Stansbury Water Tower Mural which celebrates the local fauna and landscape of the region.
- Pick up some food supplies from the local supermarket, then make your way to Redwing Farm in Weetulta where you will spend the next two nights.
Evening:
- Settle in for a home-cooked meal, then toast some marshmallows by the open fire and stargaze until your hearts content!

Day 6
You can spend your time at Redwing Farm strolling the property, playing giant outdoor games, riding bikes, roasting marshmallows over your own outdoor firepit, and feeding and interacting with the animals! This is what family holidays are all about… a chance to disconnect from the real world and reconnect with each other.
You can cater all your own meals in your accommodation, but if you feel like venturing out for a change of scenery, head to Sunny Hill Distillery for a cheese platter and a spirit tasting. Spread out a picnic rug on the lush green grass and enjoy the beautiful views while the kids play lawn games.
Day 7
Weetulta– Adelaide
Total driving distance: 171km
- Enjoy breakfast with a view as you farewell your farmstay and hit the road for the journey back to Adelaide.
- Have lunch on the way home at Kipling’s Bakery in Port Wakefield where you can tuck into a good old fashioned meat pie and the most delicious donuts in town!
